The Coahoma Community College Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) has proudly announced it has received a Five Star Level.

PTK developed the Five Star Chapter Plan, which offers five levels of engagement in Phi Theta Kappa. Each level consists of prescribed activities to build a strong, active chapter taking advantage of all Phi Theta Kappa has to offer.

The distinction is something PTK co-sponsor Joharrison Rockett is very proud of. He shared that the honor is something that the Coahoma chapter worked tirelessly to achieve.

“Receiving the five-star status is a great accomplishment for the Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society because it is our first year reaching our ultimate goal at Coahoma Community College,” said Rockett. “Our chapter has truly worked hard as a whole. We feel we have the substance to be able to sit among other chapters of distinction with pride. It is awesome that we have reached this level.”

Rockett added the distinction is very meaningful to the CCC chapter, acknowledging that members know that their efforts are recognized and not done in vain.

“Not only are our present members honored, but we believe this legacy will bring about a change in the way we serve our school and community,” Rockett added.

PTK created the Five Star Plans to aid chapters in setting and reaching goals. The program is set to organize chapter priorities, so groups can put together a plan of action and start making a difference right away.

The plan has made all the difference in elevating student experiences within the Clarksdale-based chapter, something co-sponsor Monica Tompkins is very proud of.

“Achieving the 5-star status shows that our members have been engaged in the chapter through fellowship, service, scholarship, and leadership. With these four hallmarks interwoven in the chapter through activities and events, it puts Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter at Coahoma Community College at a level to compete regionally, nationally, and internationally,” said Tompkins.

“Another great benefit of this status is that members bond with people like them — smart, intelligent, dependable, sharp, and tech-savvy. Members that help to achieve the 5-star status leave Coahoma Community College equipped to lead with a servant attitude and the ability to work on teams,” she added.

Gaining the Five Star Level means the Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter will be recognized locally, regionally, and internationally. The recognition will assist the CCC chapter in gaining exposure and adds to their overall college experience as remarkable scholars.

“Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter wants to accomplish a 5-star status every year, consecutively. We want our chapter to be a society of servant leaders, feeding on volunteer work,” said Tompkins. “Our members have the ability to compete. However, we want their work (projects and research) to be notable. Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter is hoping to rise up to have a reapable reputation in the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.”

The chapter has been highly visible on the CCC campus as of late. The group has spearheaded a number of initiatives, all aimed at better serving the CCC campus community and providing enhanced student experiences. All actions that Rockett is proud of. He hopes to increase efforts to elevate PTK student experiences.

“This has been attributed to the awareness of the Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter and service projects we have done in the community. Being that the Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter is the largest club or organization on campus, our chapter has leaders in every aspect of the Coahoma Community College environment,” said Rockett.

This is only the beginning for the CCC chapter as more progressive plans are in place to continue these efforts and do more in support of enhanced student support and experiences.
