 (Clarksdale, MS) - Coahoma Community College’s (CCC) Office of Admissions proudly announced that two of its dedicated Admissions Clerks, Johnda Moore & Shalynda Williams, attended the highly renowned Admissions Counselor Summit on August 1-2, 2024. This pivotal event was held both in-person at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond, MS, and virtually, providing flexibility for all participants.

The Admissions Counselor Summit was meticulously designed to provide college admissions staff with crucial information on college access, covering key areas such as entry processes, financial aid, and comprehensive college planning. Attendees benefited from a diverse array of presentations, engaged in realistic mock-situation settings, and participated in focused small-group discussions.

The event schedule included a welcome and general sessions, followed by a series of breakout sessions and an optional networking reception for in-person attendees only each day.

First day session covered a wide range of important areas including:

  • Panel of Career Coaches & CCR Teachers
  • Strategies for understanding student populations
  • Navigating college admissions conversations with parents and different personality types
  • Managing stress and networking opportunities
  • Maximizing outreach
  • Troubleshooting issues during school visits
  • Creating a smooth transfer experience
  • Financial aid updates for the 2024-2025 school year

Second day session covered topics such as:

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strategic use of social media
  • Authentic connections with students
  • FAITH Scholarship and support for foster youth scholars
  • Self-care for admissions professionals
  • Insights from veterans in the admissions counselor field

These events offer valuable opportunities to stay updated on the latest trends, strategies, and best practices. They provide a platform for networking with peers and industry experts, exchanging ideas, and gaining fresh perspectives.
