Coahoma Community College Launches Innovative Professional Development Coaching Program Pilot

CTE 23

Clarksdale, Mississippi — Coahoma Community College is proud to announce the launch of a pioneering professional development coaching program pilot designed to empower its dedicated faculty members. Developed in collaboration between the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department, this initiative marks a significant stride towards enhancing the skills and capabilities of the college's esteemed educators.

The coaching program, spearheaded by Dr. Ouida McAfee, Director for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, is set to commence with a select group of eight faculty members. Dr. McAfee expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "The coaching pilot program is a pivotal component in support of CCC's strategic plan, aiming to provide comprehensive professional development opportunities for all our employees. The program focuses on cultural competence, evidence-based strategy, and collaboration and mentorship."

Under the discerning eye of Dr. Larry Webster, the Dean of CTE, participants for this pilot program were carefully chosen to assist in advancing their teaching practices and furthering their contributions to the college community. The participants are: Solomon Gray, Etavious Johnson, Michael Taylor, Earnest Bell, Tony Cooper, Otha Williams, Melvin Nelson, and James Hall.

The program is structured around three key pillars: cultural competence, evidenced-based strategies, and mentorship and collaboration. By addressing these crucial aspects, participants will not only expand their pedagogical toolkit but will also deepen their understanding of the diverse student body at Coahoma Community College.

Through this innovative coaching program, faculty members will have the opportunity to engage in tailored professional development experiences, ensuring they remain at the forefront of contemporary teaching methodologies. The collaborative efforts between CETL and CTE exemplify Coahoma Community College's commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

As the program progresses, participants will benefit from personalized coaching, peer-to-peer collaboration, and access to a wealth of resources curated to support their professional growth. The anticipated outcomes include heightened instructional effectiveness, increased student engagement, and ultimately, the continued elevation of academic success at Coahoma Community College.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Career and Technical Education department at Coahoma Community College look forward to the positive impact that this pilot program will have on faculty members and, by extension, the broader college community.
