2nd Chance MS Grant

Coahoma Community College Workforce Development Center has partnered with Planters Bank to receive the 2nd Chance MS Grant. This grant will fund $20,000 for the 2023-2024 Grant Cycle. It will focus on the individual needs of programs serving low-income, undereducated, and underemployed adult students enrolled in adult education/workforce programs.

Tamara Washington-Travis, Director of Adult Education, expressed her gratitude for receiving this grant.

"I am incredibly grateful for receiving this grant. It will allow us to support our students and expand our reach to those who cannot attend traditional class settings," said Travis. "Mr. Lance Johnson played a crucial role in completing the grant application. Our organization serves many rural areas where technology poses a significant barrier. We hope this grant will help us overcome this obstacle and enable our students to achieve their educational goals."

Travis shares that this grant will be allocated towards purchasing laptops, hotspots, and other necessary technology resources to address the technological barriers adult education students face.

The grant is awarded to entities seeking to enhance their ability to enroll adults seeking educational and employment advancements in their programs and retain these students by removing known barriers to either the students or the program itself, allowing the educational component to come to fruition.

"This grant will enable CCC to reach a larger number of individuals within our service area, encouraging them to enroll in Adult Education programs and eventually join CCC," said Travis.

To secure the grant, the application was submitted through 2nd Chance MS, and with a partnership from Planters Bank, the grant was approved.
