The Office of Communications and Marketing welcomes Terrisa Mark as its new Sports Information Director. Mark grew up in Princes Town located in the Caribbean island of Trinidad. Becoming the first woman to serve in this role at the College has generated a sense of accomplishment and pride.
"It means that I am now in a locality to inspire and motivate women, especially women of color, that we can achieve our goals and, most importantly, break traditions and the glass ceiling," said Mark.
Her trail of accomplishments started with leading her high school graduating class in Trinidad as the valedictorian. She then graduated summa cum laude and was the salutatorian of the 2017 class of Wiley College. After attaining her bachelor's in mass communications, she furthered her education at the University of Miami, receiving a Master of Arts degree in journalism. Mark accented her collegiate career with participation in the sport of track and field.
Mark has layered up a diverse background in media, having served as the Assistant Sports Information Director of Wiley College, an intern sports and news reporter for The Marshall News Messenger, a sports and news reporter for the Miami, Florida, radio station WLRN, and as a news anchor for the University of Miami television news station while simultaneously pursuing her master's. Her most recent work was completed as a freelancer for The New Tri-State Defender of Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to joining the Tiger Family, she continued gaining experience at the WHBQ Fox13 Memphis news station. She describes herself as a young passionate sports and journalism enthusiast. Her hobbies include working out, meeting new people, and traveling the world.
Mark firmly believes in the gifts within small communities.
"I admire where the College has started from and blossomed into, as it is also a reflection of my life of progress and persistence," Mark detailed. She notices similarities between Coahoma Community College and her homeland, the twin Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. They all have small populations that produce talented world changers.
To her, entering the SID role means she will impact students' lives through her talents.
"I am in love with storytelling, and I am so eager and ready to tell each one of these unique student-athletes' past, present, and future," Mark added.
"I am looking forward to motivating potential Tigers with the legacies that I will present through excellent works of media as well as highlighting and giving accreditation to the amazing work being done at CCC by coaches, administration, professors, and most importantly, student-athletes."
