In a recent report published by the Primary Care Development Corporation, a national U.S. Treasury-certified community development financial institution, the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn have negatively affected many people's mental health and created new complications for individuals already suffering from mental illness and substance use disorders.

With these facts in mind, the Lyceum Committee decided that the subject of mental health would be appropriate and pertinent to the campus community.

Over her career, Crystal Washington has worn many hats; social media marketing strategist, international keynote speaker, and the co-founder of Socialtunities, a social media instructional brand aimed at training everyone from Gen Y's to Baby Boomers in strategically using social media. As a thought leader with a passion for leveraging technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness, she writes blogs and articles. She conducts webinars that illustrate the practical applications of social media and mobile technology.

Because of her background, the committee thought it was appropriate for Washington to make the presentation, fitting in line with the group's core functions and goals.

The Lyceum Committee serves to bring cultural experience and enhanced educational opportunities to the campus community and the larger CCC five-county service area. The group works to plan, approve and bring culturally enriching programs and activities to the college campus for the student body, faculty/staff, and the community, as well as allow students and faculty and staff to attend such activities away from the college that are directly related to enhancing their education.

Committee representatives shared that the group hopes that attendees will be more knowledgeable on the subject at the end of Washington's presentation and be aware of the adversities that are caused by the Mental state of mind in dealing with Social Media.
